Information for Nurses

SHIRP resources are embedded into the libraries at the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Nurses who are employees of these institutions are encouraged to use their institution’s library to access library resources and services.

Below are some of the databases available through SHIRP. To access all of our databases, click on SHIRP Databases A-Z

  • CINAHL - a comprehensive database providing full text for more than 560 nursing journals and abstracts and indexing for a further 3,000 journals. A best bet to start Nursing research. 
  • Healthstar - selected citations from the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE and former HealthSTAR databases covering health care delivery including health services, technology, administration and research. 

  • PsycINFO - a database providing abstracts and citations to the psychological, social, behavioural and health sciences literature.

Davis' Drug Guide for Nurses can be found within Nursing Reference Centre Plus under the Drugs tab

SHIRP has over 300 e-books. Use the search box at the top right of the page to search for a specific title. TIP: Use double quotation marks     (" ")  around two or more words from the title. e.g. "nursing care plans"




SHIRP has over 1,600 journals available in full text. Use the search box at the top right of the page to search for a specific title. TIP: Use double quotation marks (" ") around two or more words from the title. e.g. "nursing administration"
Point of care tools can be used to find answers to clinical questions quickly at the point of care.
Nursing Reference Centre Plus and Dynamed Plus offer free mobile apps that once downloaded, do not need wi-fi to use. Instructions to download can be found on the Apps for Mobile Devices page.
